My name is Robert Campbell and I am the branch secretary for the GMB S70 Security Branch in Northern Ireland. I have worked for a number of companies who provide security solutions across Northern Ireland and I have been representing GMB members in the industry for the last eighteen years. The goals I adhere to through the GMB trade union are to continue to seek better terms & conditions for our members and to have the security industry pay the “Living Wage Foundation”rate of pay to provide a decent wage for our members. Since the introduction of the SIA regulations within the industry requiring all employees to obtain formal qualifications to be licensed for the work carried out, the GMB believes that the industry is now a profession, as specialist skills are required to carry out the necessary duties and we are campaigning to have this recognised.
